Some of the most die-hard fans in all of sports are Knicks fans…It’s this fact which also might make them the most vulnerable.
Talks of getting Carmelo in a trade have Knicks fans anxious AND apprehensive at the same time. Although the Knicks have proven they are a playoff-caliber team, they’ve also proven that they’re NOT a championship team. Fundamental things like having more than one (pick and roll) offense, playing defense, and rebounding are things they struggle with.
So what are the risks?
Acquire Melo and risk deconstructing the chemistry of the team.
Don’t acquire Melo at the right time, he goes to some other team like The Mavs or Orlando and risk…well…being a loser for another ten years.
Direct a lot of attention toward getting Melo, lose focus of the season and Melo decide to take his talents elsewhere? *cough*
So what is the right answer? Would you acquire Melo by this season’s trade deadline in February or try to get him in the summer?
