I’m not even going to lie to you. At the beginning of this season- even after he had led UConn to win the tournament in Maui- I wasn’t 100% sold on Kemba Walker. He’s tiny (he MIGHT be 5’11”), he doesn’t seem very fundamentally sound and he’s not the fastest dude out there, either. Besides, I’ve seen him play for 10+ years and he was always good but never Kobe/Lebron-like special.
Well, after getting a closer look in the Big East Tourney, I’m a believer.
While he’s most likely finished growing and will never be as fast as a guard like Derrick Rose, Kemba has that extra motor. It’s like while everyone has to plug in to recharge, Kemba plugs in but also has a backup battery in his back. He does NOT stop.
He has the biggest heart EVER. He literally plays until he can’t even move because he wants to win that badly. His desire goes that deep.
I’ve had the chance to speak to him after every game he played and true to form, after each one, he’s like, “This was a great win, but we have to get ready for tomorrow. I’ll be ready.”
The kid is a true competitor and is super humble about it at the same time.
He’s smart (graduating in three years and was just named First Team All American), humble, determined, a beast on the floor and he’s showing up in games EXACTLY how his team needs him to. Whether its a big rebound, lose ball, free throws, clutch assist- he does what needs to be done. He’s definitely a pro.
I may be late, but I know now!
