Joakim Noah conducted an entertaining interview on H2G Radio where he talked about various topics including this season, DJ Clue’s basketball skills, the violence in Chicago and a man who tattooed his face on his thigh. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:
On Working with Kareem
H2G: I’m hearing reports about you adding some strong things to your game- sky hooks and things of that nature…
Joakim: Nah man, they’re lying…they’re lying
H2G: You don’t want to put the scouting report out there Joakim?
Joakim: [laughs] I was just working with Kareem a little bit over the summer but I’m telling y’all right now, man, just chillin with Kareem for one week doesn’t get you a sky hook, though, for real.
H2G: [laughs]…maybe it’s not the sky hook, but the mini hook…
Joakim: I’ve been grinding, working hard on my jumper. It’s ugly, but I’m telling y’all, it’s wet.
On Choosing Anthropology as a Major in College
Joakim: I’m from a lot of different places so I like to pick courses that I was interested in. So, I’m interested in learning about different cultures, different people. Being open minded about people who are different. I thought that anthropology was perfect for that. I wasn’t really into studying bones and all that though- but I did like Indiana Jones growing up.
On The Violence in Chicago
Joakim: I just try to stay true to myself. I’m not the type of dude to walk around with security, I don’t think that’s necessary. It’s sad when you see the kids killing each other over nothing. It’s really sad, man. I feel like, when you play for the Chicago Bulls, whether you like it or not, you represent the city. I felt like it’s just important to represent the city well and be there for the kids a little bit. The kids out here are suffering, man. It’s hard coming from this city, man. Even though I don’t come from the hood, my father was a tennis player, I just try to be there for them. Talk to them and more than anything, listen to them as much as possible.
On Staying Focused
Joakim: You can’t take anyone lightly in the NBA. Even the bum teams can get you if your mind ain’t right.
On Craziest Thing He’s Ever Seen From a Fan
Joakim: I’ve heard a lot of crazy stuff but the craziest thing I’ve ever seen is…this dude pulled down his pants and he had a tattoo of my face on his thigh. He had a tattoo on his inner thigh of my grill. Yea…it’s wild [laughs].
On DJ Clue
Joakim: I see Clue, he’s always playing at Chelsea Piers. He’s the type of dude who likes to match his shirt with his shorts and his shoes- you know, he loves that Lebron gear.
H2G: How’s his game? How’s his game?
Joakim: That’s my man but…he thinks he’s real nice [everyone laughs].
H2G: I know, man, he has the mouthpiece in and everything [laughs]
Joakim: He calls fouls every time, too. Stop calling fouls, Clue!…He stays with a durag, too.
