Shame on me, I should’ve seen this coming since last year.
First we have the HCIC- Head Clown in Charge, Jim Buss. Magic Johnson called him out last season, for heading the franchise improperly after Kobe said the Lakers’ front office is slacking. Magic insisted that more power was being usurped from General Manager Mitch Kupchak by Jim Buss, Team President.
See, Jim Buss is suffering from what many doctors have diagnosed as ‘Douchebag Delusion‘. Common symptoms are:
1. A person in power who still feels inadequate so he does whatever he has to do to feel like he has even more power;
2. A person a part of a successful organization who wants to reinvent the wheel to make it seem like he revolutionized said organization;
3. A person who makes irrational decisions that go against the grain, just for the hope that his formula works so he can say, “I told you so” at the end;
4. A person who will never amount to the level of success his father has so he does what he can sabotage his father’s businesses to put a dent in his father’s legacy;
5. A douchebag.
It all became clear when little Jimmy decided to call Phil Jackson in the middle of the night to tell him he hadn’t gotten the coaching job.
…let me get this straight. Not only are Lakers fans physically begging for Phil Jacksons’ return, you go out of your way to go meet with him at his home, tell him to think about it for a couple of days and then call him on the eve of the day he was supposed to tell you his decision, to let him know you hired someone else??
This is obviously a power struggle. Cut and dry. Jimmy wants the fans to chant his name at the games. He wants to receive a standing ovation like his father, Jerry.
Newsflash Jim: It will never happen…douchebag.
I like Jerry Buss. I think he’s a brilliant businessman who has had enough sense to defer to real basketball minds like Phil Jackson, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant to help lead the Lakers to victory.
Unfortunately for me, Jerry has to be featured in this circus, by default. He’s not a clown, maybe a tightrope walker. History proves that the Lakers organization was fine before Jimmy decided he needed to shake things up. Jerry is wrong for agreeing with his son and allowing Jim to disrespect Phil like that. Pulling this move is only going to ruin his son’s already tarnished rep, even more.
Jerry is walking the fine line of running a business and appeasing his son. I guess this is why they say business and family/friends don’t mix. Don’t get booed out of the Staples Center with Jimmy because you want him to pass you the stuffing at Thanksgiving dinner without him spitting in it. Save the Lakers, go eat with Jeanie and Phil.
Mitch Kupchak is in a bad position. Mitchie is just trying to keep his job and not piss Jimmy off. Lion tamer.
Just to be clear, I don’t totally dislike Mike D’Antoni as coach of the Lakers. He has a great relationship with Kobe and Steve and I think his offensive sets would be beneficial for the Lakers.
He would make be the perfect ASSISTANT.
Make no mistake, the Lakers need more than just a good offensive strategy from a coach. Aside from the obvious [D-E-F-E-N-S-E], they need a coach that the team- aka Kobe- can respect. They get along now but when the pressure is on, I guarantee you, Kobe will not look to championship-less, NY Knicks-reject D’Antoni to figure it out for the team. Not to mention, Phil Jackson has a reputation for balancing many vastly different personalities, which is crucial this season for the Lakers.
The Lakers are my team but I don’t know if I can still route for them with this blatant display of foolishness. I’m just interested to see how far this clown show will push Kobe.
