Oh. Hello there subpar Big East. Wasn’t expecting you…
Imagine a very attractive boy/girl you had a crush on in high school. They were charismatic, charming, in shape, funny, intelligent, polite, popular, athletic- your dream boy/girl. Fast forward ten years to your high school reunion and you haven’t seen your crush since high school.
You’re excited because you weren’t exactly your best self in high school. Now that you’re no longer socially awkward and own a successful business, you finally have the confidence to tell your crush your true feelings.
You get there early, scope the crowd and notice your crush isn’t there yet. “Perfect,” you say. Now you can see your crush come in before they spot you. You post up in the corner by the door inconspicuously spying on the entryway all night.
Next thing you know, in walks a sloppy, unattractive, out of shape person covered in huge tattoos and ratchet piercings. This person looks vaguely familiar to you but you just KNOW that it can’t be your crush. You can’t see the nametag so you muster the courage to saunter over and spark a conversation with this person, who everyone else seems to be avoiding like the plague.
Five seconds into the conversation, you determine that this person with the rancid breath and the weird twitch is, indeed, your crush.
Almost instantaneously, you turn and run for dear life thinking, “Damn. My crush really let himself [or herself] go.”
Your crush, my friends, is the New Big East.
Please join me in watching the sinking ship formerly known as the Big East as they welcome Tulane [and East Carolina in football only] to the conference.
Oh, and if you thought Tulane was bad kill yourself now because Louisville left and they’re threatening to make more additions/subtractions to the conference soon. It’s not bad enough that the existing, usually dominant, teams in the Big East leave much to be desired this season- Mike Aresco [new Big East Commish] has set himself on a mission to make the Big East conference the laughing stock of the NCAA.
Needless to say, I was less enthused when I heard of his progress.
#NightNight to the days of really looking forward to the Big East Tournament.
#NightNight to the electric Big East rivalries that energize the whole east coast.
#NightNight to the Big East being one of the most competitive conferences in college ball.
#NightNight to the Big East being a feeding ground to the NBA.
#NightNight to Big East teams actually making it to the Sweet 16.
#NightNight Big East.
This is depressing.
