There really are bigger problems in the world than to have to combat such ignorant people like Mitch Lawrence. Unfortunately for him, such blatant stereotyping and racism just can’t be ignored.
Genius Mitch Lawrence, of the NY Daily News, decided to pen a column about how the NY Knicks condone and perpetuate gun violence through their three-point celebration (three fingers up in the air by their head). Big thank you to Mitch for providing the visual which clearly depicts a thugged out Carmelo Anthony shooting himself in the head:
“Here was Carmelo Anthony draining four 3-pointers against an inferior Phoenix Suns team on Sunday at the Garden and then putting a couple of fingers next to his head every time he hit one, as if he were shooting himself. With the Jovan Belcher murder-suicide in Kansas City happening the day before, with guns so prevalent in society and wreaking so much carnage, it hardly looks like the appropriate way to celebrate an NBA three.”
Yes..I am just as confused as you so let’s attempt to break this thing down together, starting with what they have in common:
– Carmelo Anthony is a black athlete.
– Jovan Belcher is a black athlete.
– The end.
I guess that’s all the information the super intelligent Mitch Lawrence needed…you know…since all black men are thugs who carry guns and shoot people.
That’s not all, folks:
Larry Johnson’s fist-to-the-elbow, anyone? The famous four-point specialist was at courtside, taking in his old team’s 12th win of the season. When he was introduced over the P.A. and shown on the TV scoreboard, he made his trademark sign, to a raucous ovation. But that’s his sign, and it’s so ’90’s. This Knicks team probably won’t go to it because it’s not original.
Wait a minute. There’s no way he has been using that signal as his signature because his name is actually Larry Johnson, right? Nah.
In fact, upon closer review, I’m protesting the LJ signal because he’s cosigning putting people in the head lock and punching people in the arm. Real dangerous stuff here.
…And the hits keep coming.
“Steve Novak did his hands-to-the-waist sign, mimicking putting on a championship boxing belt.”
That’s funny that you see a championship boxing belt there, Mitch. What I actually see is Steve Novak saying it’s ok to have a big gut- Steve Novak must be pro-obesity!! They DO sell fried foods at the garden…that’s it isn’t it? MSG and Steve Novak are trying to get us all to be fatties! Call up the FBI, this is unacceptable and I’m not going to stand for it.
Then it gets good.
“If it was a gun reference, as has been strongly suggested in references on the Internet, then you can bet it would be major, and the Knicks would have to stop using it. There is no place in an NBA game for glorifying guns. That would send the wrong message to everyone. When it comes to guns, it’s never a minor issue, as if some players need to be reminded how guns have sometimes tragically affected their lives, or the close calls some have been in when they’ve been around firearms.”
Ohhhh, the wonders of the internet. Forget Mitch actually going out to get the opinion of real life gangsters, thugs and gun-toters- he looks up three fingers to the dome on the internet. The funniest part is, he’s not even embarrassed to say that’s where his information is coming from! It’s on the internet so it HAS to be true, right? Compelling journalism, Mitch. Thank you for giving us a clear picture of how journalism is done over at The News.
Skipping over all of the other COMPLETELY irrelevant things he talks about [like a shooting at Rucker Park and his breakdown of the Jovan Belcher situation], he proceeds to go in on Rasheed Wallace.
By the time the Knicks had posted their latest win, Wallace was long gone, having been ejected in the first quarter after picking up two technicals. So he wasn’t around to explain his sign.
Translation: ‘Thugged out, gun toting, ring leader of the three-fingers-to-the-dome-for-the-three-pointer gang, Rasheed Wallace was too busy being a thug and being ejected from the game to even comment. Besides, I was too scared to go look for him…he IS black and all.’
I saw Rasheed with my own two eyes after the game, he didn’t leave the building. After he got dressed, he walked over to the Suns locker room to greet Jermaine O’Neal. I passed him in the hallway and even said hello. Lucky for me, I was wearing my bulletproof vest so I survived the encounter.
I’ll make a suggestion for the good folks over at The News: This is a cry for help from Mitch Lawrence. It would be a good idea to stop sending him to the garden because he’s terrified of getting shot by the huge black thugs that always seem to be there.
Maybe he should cover figure skatin- wait- no. They have huge sharp blades on the bottom of their skates that they thrust into the air! They are signaling slicing people in the neck- bad idea.
Golf? Nope…golfers are sending the message that it’s ok to beat things with golf clubs. Wrong message.
Hockey? Big, muscular white men who beat each other up, throw punches, slam their ice skates into other players and have to be put in a timeout corner? Sounds wholesome.
Yes…he’ll be safe there.
